About Us
The Humanist Society of West Yorkshire was founded in 1967. We make up one of four groups in Yorkshire, alongside North Yorkshire Humanist Group, Sheffield Humanist Society and Hull and East Riding Humanist Group.
Mission & beliefs
Our mission is “to build a thriving Humanist community in West Yorkshire”. We are a humanist group and subscribe to the principles set forward in the Humanist Manifesto. We are guided by reason, inspired by compassion and informed by experience.
Humanism is a progressive philosophy of life that, without supernaturalism, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal fulfilment that aspire to the greater good of humanity.
You can read the full Humanist Manifesto here and learn more about humanism on out What is Humanism? page.
